Yes, Pole Dancing is empowering!
In response to the article by David Mitchell in The Observer I want to take a moment to talk about the word "empowerment." The idea of pole dancing allows women has been getting thrown around a lot in the community of pole dancing. A lot of people outside the community ridicule the idea. After all, pole dancing, which in the minds of many people is directly related to the strip clubs, has mostly been associated with the objectification of women, not empowerment. This debate was most recently reflected in decision-Cambridge Union Society "to celebrate all kinds of women, from pole dancing, to call for women empowerment, and public response. Okay, now that you have read the article, and are probably steaming mad, I think it would be useful to throw some definitions.

Exclusion: This refers to the overt or covert trends within societies whereby those perceived as lacking desirable traits or deviating from the rules group tend to be excluded from society in general and ostracized as undesirable. Let's start with the training. How to strengthen individuals and pole dancing communities?
Economically, women in the community of pole dancing are: 1) create their own businesses through teaching, writing, clothing sales, contests and earn money. 2) The development of a new market niche 3) who spend their own money for something they value and thus stimulate the economy.
Politically, women's pole dancing community are pushing for redefine the boundaries of what is considered proper sexual behavior for women, pushing to be seen as athletes in their own right, pushing the freedom to express sexuality and sensuality without exclusion and condemnation.
Socially, the women of the community gather pole dancing communities (as they have for centuries) and the connection, relationship building, networking, supporting each other, get in shape, exploring their sexuality, explore her femininity, play, laugh, mourn and celebrate together.
Spiritually, women in the community of pole dancing connects to the erotic, which is a deeply spiritual and profoundly feminine in all of us, men or women. The erotic is related to an inner knowing, a felt sense that lives in the body, and is easily expressed through movement. In addition, women in the community of pole dancing are gathering in the same so many spiritual organizations meet once a week at a designated space sacred communion with the intention of individually and collectively in honor of her body and movement.
For most women who have taken a pole dancing class for an extended period of time, it goes without saying that increased their confidence in their capacities – physical and sexual well sometimes. So these are the ways in which pole dancing falls under the definition of the word "empowerment."
Now, let's talk about the definition of marginalization of one minute: refers to the overt or covert trends within societies whereby those that are perceived as lacking desirable traits or deviating from group norms tend to be excluded from society in general and ostracized as undesirable. pole dancing is, at this stage, most definitely deviate from the norm. Ten years ago it would have been hard pressed to find even one class. Get the general acceptance has only just begun and we, as a community of women who freely choose sensually dancing on a pole in six inch heels and not the rule.
In addition, are united (and rightly so, to some extent) with the community strip club. In a culture where open displays of female sexuality are seen as less than desirable (about especially if they are made for the exchange of money) and sex-phobia is widespread, it is not surprising that there is no retreat from the general public. So when the Mr Mitchell referred to a woman who might be interested in a pole dancing class as "impressionable" stupid, or when someone makes fun of the idea a pole dancing class as "empowerment", or another woman accuses us of "betrayal of women everywhere, and none of these people have created even a foot inside of a study, what we are witnessing is a deliberate exclusion of the wider circle of society. And that the exclusion was based on ignorance and fear. The irony, of course, is that many of these people are basing their reasons for exclusion in the fact that pole dancing is "denigrating" to women. Want to judge and ostracize something that then) had never achieved b) know nothing about and have never bothered to research and then say they are doing in the spirit of protecting women and their integrity. It's the ultimate in hypocrisy. A more honest people like Mr. Mitchell would simply say something like this: The thought of women dancing erotically scares the crap out of me. I find it hard and Loathing at a time and do not know how to deal with that.
Finally, the idea that women are taking these classes to be "leering" and that there is something inherently wrong with that is completely absurd. First, the reason pole dancing classes are all women is precisely to avoid the "ogling" of factors (and not because they are sexist, as Mr. Mitchell would have us believe). Secondly, what if a woman has the look of another person while dancing erotically. What's wrong with that? I'll tell you what is wrong with him. Anyone who has danced erotically the other knows the tremendous power over that person. The fastest way to rob a woman of that power is out to embarrass her. And that's the dirty trick has been played in women for centuries. Unfortunately, we play in it, to allow and even encourage responses demeaning to our sexuality. It is only through full ownership and expression of our sexual being that we will end the practice repugnant. pole dancing, as most of us already know, is an excellent way to do just that. So understand it, Mr. Mitchell.
